NYU Grad student workers go out on strike

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Picket
Picket lines go up Wednesday, November 9, and stay up daily. Come by any day from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in front of Bobst Library, at Washington Square South and LaGuardia Place.

Call
Contact NYU and tell them to negotiate in good faith with
the union. Email or call President John Sexton (212-998-2345, john.sexton@nyu.edu) to let him know that you will not support his union-busting efforts.

November 2005

After four years of collective bargaining with its graduate student employees, the NYU administration is now refusing to recognize their union. Their excuse? A stunning reversal by the George Bush-appointed majority on the National Labor Relations Board, who declared that grad student employees no longer have the right to form a union. NYU's grad students are not just fighting for a new contract—they're fighting for their basic right to unionize.

Hundreds of graduate teaching and research assistants, members of the Graduate Student Organizing Committee, UAW Local 2110, will go out on strike on Wednesday, November 9 unless NYU agrees to come to the table.  Hundreds of classes will be canceled or moved unless a strike is averted. The graduate students are asking for support from labor union members across the city.
