Benefits in Brief:

The Retirees Benefit Fund provides retirees and eligible dependents with supplemental benefits.  The supplemental benefits are as follows:  General Medical, Prescription Drug, Dental, Optical, Mental Health, Hearing Aid, Podiatry, Legal.  The following benefits require you fill out a claim form within 90 days of the date of service Dental, Optical, Mental Health, Hearing Aid, Podiatry. If you have questions feel free to call the Retiree Division or attend one of the Retiree Benefit Overviews listed on the Monthly Events calendar.

Mondays July 10, 17, 24-Windows 10 - Beyond the Basics: The stuff you always wanted to know how to do! -Ready to go beyond just surfing the web, typing letters and playing games on your computer? Come learn how to make folders for your documents, email webpage links, backup your computer, make a guest user account, and more! Time:10:00am-12:00pm

 

Mondays July 10, 17, 24, 31-Your Mac and You -Finally, a class just for Mac users! You'll learn the Mac way of doing things (which is much simpler than Windows), including email, photos, cool apps, music, iCloud, backing up, and much more! Time: 1:00pm-3:00pm

Wednesday July 12-Retiree Benefit Overview & New Retiree Welcome: Come in out of the heat and learn about your supplemental benefits, Medicare, NYC health benefits or get questions answers you have.  A complete benefit overview of union benefits will be provided. New retirees (first time visitors to the Division) will receive a “New Retiree Welcome gift” Time: 11:00pm-1:00 pm  Summer refreshments served.

 

July 13-14 - Amish Lands, PA Featuring Sight & Sounds  “Jonah’ at the Millennium Theatre and 3 hour guided bus tour of Amish land. Dinner Shady Maple Smorgasbord and lunch Cracker Barrel! Double Occupancy $260.00 Single Occupancy $335.00 Limited Seats available.

 

Thursday July 13-The Stunningly Beautiful Waterfalls at Croton Gorge Park Croton Gorge Park is at the base of the Croton Dam, and offers breathtaking views of the waterfalls coming off the spillway – a sight you will never forget! NOTE: this is a BAG LUNCH trip. We are meeting at Grand Central Terminal at 10:15am and taking the 10:43am express to Croton-Harmon (4 stops). Fare is $10.75 adults, $7.00 seniors EACH WAY. From there, we will share a cab to the park (about $4.00 per person). RETURN TRIP: 4:49 PM train to Grand Central, which arrives at 5:44pm. (We’ll have about 4 hours time in the park).

 

Monday July 17 -Optical Benefit Provider- General Vision Services: Dawn Correa, Senior Account Representative will be on hand to answer all questions relating to the Optical benefit offered by General Vision.Time:10:30 am- 12:00pm   

 

Wednesday July 19 -Restaurant and Cruise –Enjoy lunch at the Blu Pointe restaurant – located on the waterfront in Newburgh New York. After lunch cruise on the Pride of the Hudson, past  Bannerman’s Island, Cold Spring, Storm King Mountain West Point and much more. Choice of Entrée are Pan Seared Chicken, Hiddenejored Salmon or Risotto (Season Veg) Departure:9:00am Sharp! Approximate return time: 6:30pm Prefix Price $65.00

 

Wednesday July 19-NEW SEMINAR: Microsoft Powerpoint - Part 2-Now that you’ve learned to the basics, we’ll move on to the really interesting stuff! Organization charts for your church or club, and those cool animated slide shows people send you via email. Time:10:00am-2:00pm

 

Thursday July 20 - Landlord and Tenant Workshop -Mr. Salvador Rosenberg will conduct a lecture on residential tenant rights: understanding co-ops or condo regulations, senior citizen safety and consumer fraud prevention. Time: 10:00am-12:00pm  Salad Bar 12:30 pm-1:15pm

 

Thursday July 20- NYC Health Plan Overview- Emblem Health: Kathy Smith- McElhiney will be available to answer all questions relating to Emblem HIP And GHI plans for retirees and Medicare eligible retirees.  Time: 1:30 pm- 3:00pm   

 

Tuesday July 25 -Staten Island Yankees- The ball park is located one block from the Staten Island Ferry. Must pick up tickets in advance! Game starts at 11:00 Meet group at Staten Island Ferry 9:30am to travel together or we will meet you at your seat. Price $15 includes admission and a $10 value debit card good for food and drinks in the ball park.

 

Wednesday July 26-Music, TV and Movies on your Computer, Tablet & Smartphone-STREAMING MUSIC-hear the music you like everywhere, on all your devices. STREAMING VIDEO-watch TV shows on YOUR schedule. Bonus: how to watch HBO and Showtime without a cable subscription. Time:10:00am-2:00pm

 

Thursday July 27- Travel Back in Time to Historic Staten Island-Historic Richmond Town is a completely authentic, real and original town featuring actors in period costumes dating back to the mid-1600s (admission: $8 adults, $6 seniors). The historic Alice Austen House features many of the 8,000 photographs captured during the life of one of America's earliest and most accomplished female photographers (suggested donation: $3). We’ll be taking the 10:00am ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island (meet 9:45am at the Ferry terminal on Whitehall St.), then the S51 bus (accepts MetroCards) to Alice Austen House. Afterwards, well travel to by bus to Historic Richmond Town. (BAG LUNCH, or purchase food at ferry terminal) We’ll complete our trip via bus to the St. George terminal for the 5:00pm Ferry back to Manhattan.

 

Monday July 31- Office of Labor Relations- www.nyc.gov./olr- Join the retiree benefits staff and our expert computer staff in our computer lab for a two-hour class on finding information on the New York City Health Benefits – Labor Relations website!  Come to this class and learn all of the plans offered by NYC, Medicare reimbursement, and changing plans.   Space is limited. 10:00am – 12:00pm
