November 7: Vote Spitzer on Row E

October 2006

At the voting booth on November 7, Local 1180 members have the opportunity to give Eliot Spitzer a clear mandate for pro-worker change. Local 1180 urges its members to vote for Spitzer for governor on the Working Families Party line, WFP Row E.

Why Eliot Spitzer? Because as attorney general, Spitzer fought for New York’s working families. He protected our pensions by clamping down on corporate cheating and lying on Wall Street and in the insurance industry. He stood with CWA in the fight against deregulation of telecommunications. And he prosecuted bad employers who cheated workers out of the minimum wage.

Why vote on WFP Row E? Because the Democrats don’t always stand
up for workers’ rights. But when working families vote for politicians on WFP Row E, they hear our voice and feel our power. Since Local 1180 helped start the Working Families Party in 1998, the WFP has grown into a powerful political force. The WFP led the successful fight for a $2 an hour increase in the state minimum wage. Now it’s battling against the Walmart-ization of our jobs, to ensure that every large employer in New York pays its fair share of
health care costs. “We want Eliot Spitzer to wake up on November 8 and see that tens of thousands of New Yorkers voted for decent jobs, workers’ rights, and health care for all by voting for him on Row E,” says Local 1180 president Arthur Cheliotes. “That’s how members of our union can hold Spitzer accountable—and make sure he will fight for us.”

Local 1180 also encourages members to vote for David Paterson for lieutenant governor, Alan Hevesi for comptroller, Andrew Cuomo for attorney general, and Hillary Clinton for U.S. Senate—all on Row E.
