Organizing On July 28, after a four-year fight, Local 1180 won the right to represent city workers in the Administrative Job Opportunity Specialist title, Levels I and II. After countless hearings on the issue during that period, all but a few people in those titles were deemed eligible for collective bargaining. The exceptions are the director of PRIDE, the Deputy Regional Managers, and the Executive Assistant to the Executive Deputy Commissioner—all of whom were designated as managerial by the Office of Collective Bargaining. Local 1180 first petitioned to represent these titles back in 2001 when the job series was first created. Now some 75 new members will join the union. Local 1180 welcomes these new members to our union family. Those in the Administrative JOS titles will soon meet with union staff to discuss their job concerns in preparation for their first contract negotiations. In the meantime, any questions can be directed to Gwen Richardson, who supervises Local 1180’s staff reps, at 212-226-6565 ext. 4907. Back to Worksite Organizing page
