Shop steward elections set for September

August 2006

According to Local 1180’s bylaws, every Local 1180 work site must hold shop steward elections each September. Stewards are elected for a term of one year. You can hold the election in whatever way accurately reflects the will of the members in your shop—whether a hand vote or secret ballots. Any member of the union can run to be steward; the union runs training sessions each year for new stewards so if you have the motivation, we can provide you with the skills.

If you don’t know who your shop steward is or want to know more about what a steward does, call the union at 212-226-6565.
