September Freedom Ride demands immigrant rights
September 2003

Inspired by the Freedom Riders of the Civil Rights Movement, immigrant workers and a coalition of labor unions, religious organizations and immigrant advocates will set out cross-country from a growing number of major U.S. Cities in late September to draw attention to unfair immigration laws. The Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride is a project of Local 1180 in collaboration with the labor movement.

Culminating in a mass rally in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, New York on October 4, the goal of the Freedom Ride is to draw attention to the rights and circumstances of undocumented immigrants living in the United States and to demand full protection of their civil rights, including legalization, rights on the job, a clear road to citizenship and reunification with their families. Riders will converge on Washington, D.C. as part of the journey and lobby members of Congress about their plight.
