Local 1180 newspaper, website, and radio program sweep labor communications awards July 2005 Local 1180's website, radio show, and newspaper again won top prizes from both the Metro New York Communications Council and the International Labor Communications Association in 2005. This website won First Place from the Metro New York Communications Council, which singled out Sound Off! and the Bulletin Board for encouraging member participation, and the blue navigation panel at left, which "allows members to quickly look up information on benefits and forms, grievances, civil service, current organizing drives, and a calendar of committee meetings." The Metro Council also awarded The Communique, Local 1180's bimonthly newspaper, First Prize for General Excellence and for Graphic Design, and Third Prize for Feature Writing. The council praised the paper's "consistent layout that allows the reader to easily find items of interest" and its "good mixture of local and national items," and for being "readable and accessible." In the national competition, the International Labor Communications Association awarded Local 1180's radio program First Prize for its segment on the history of unions in pro sports, this website won First Prize for Best Content, and The Communique won First Prize for Best Front Page and Second Prize for General Excellence.
