City contract negotiations continue

June 2007

Local 1180 president Arthur Cheliotes reports that the bargaining committee representing the union's public sector workers met with representatives of the City on June 1 for the third bargaining session this year on a new contract.

According to Cheliotes, "We have put together the broad parameters of a settlement modeled on the UFT agreement.  We are in the process of working out the details on the economics and addressing specific issues concerning the new titles we have taken into the union since the last contract."

Cheliotes says he is now waiting to receive the City's calculations on the costs of the current tentative deal, which he will then run by the union's own costing experts. The City's analysis is expected as early as this week.

Local 1180 members who work for the City have been without a contract since September 6, 2006. Negotiations for the contract began on January 18 of this year.
