Deal close on one-year extension September 2006 For the past several months, Local 1180 president Arthur Cheliotes has been in the process of negotiating a deal that would extend for another year the union's current agreement with the City. Cheliotes reports that he is now "very close" to an agreement with the City on a raise that would approximate the value of recent City contracts with other unions, such as the teachers and correction officers, at about 3.15 percent. The raise would be retroactive to July 1, 2005 and extend the current agreement out another year or so from that date. Once the final terms have been reached, the deal will go to Local 1180 members covered by the contract for a ratification vote. Cheliotes received executive board approval to explore such an extension with the City last December. As for the outstanding 1 percent productivity raise from the last City contract (which should have taken effect July 1, 2004) and the next multiyear city Contract, Local 1180 has joined in a coalition with 20 other unions whose leaders will bargain jointly on both of these matters.
