One-year, 3.15% extension for city contract a possibility

February 2006

Breaking a pattern of three-year agreements reached with DC 37, Local 1180, and other municipal unions, the city made a deal with the teachers’ union in October that includes a 3.25 percent salary increase in a fourth year. At Local 1180’s December executive board meeting, President Arthur Cheliotes reported that the city has expressed interest in meeting to discuss a one-year contract extension with a 3.15 percent salary increase for Local 1180 members who work for the city and the Health and Hospitals Corporation, which would put 1180 on the same timeline.

Cheliotes received board approval to explore such an extension with the city, with the proviso that the union seek to have newly represented titles such as Administrative Job Opportunity Specialists included in the other provisions of the contract.
