School Construction Authority

After some tense moments, pact reached
November 2004

In October negotiators from Local 1180 and the School Construction Authority (SCA) reached a new three-year contract, which was ratified by SCA members by a vote of 48 to one in November. The deal is patterned on the agreement reached earlier this year between 1180 and the city, which in turn is patterned on the contract negotiated by DC 37 with the city.

At one point in the negotiations with SCA it looked like the union bargaining team might have a hard time. SCA management had included a demand for concessions from the union that went well beyond the concessions city workers accepted. Members and stewards met to discuss strategies for beating back these concessions, and in the end SCA withdrew the proposals. Local 1180 also withdrew demands it had put on the table that went beyond the terms of the city agreement.
