Solidarity pays off in tough talks
July 2004

After months of difficult negotiations, Local 1180 members and Human Rights First reached an agreement on a first contract in late June. Solidarity and a determination to stand fast against management's efforts to frustrate the workers and impose a merit pay scheme on them paid off. The new contract sets minimum salaries and provides for an increase in those minimums in the second and third years of the contract. In addition, members won 3% increases in each of the three years of the contract, which runs from June 1, 2004 through May 31, 2007. They also won a .5% signing bonus and bonuses on the fifth and tenth anniversaries.
