Mayor responds to 1% letter campaign

September 2006

For two and a half months, members of Local 1180 have been flooding the mayor's office with letters protesting the long overdue 1 percent productivity raise promised in the final year of the last city contract, which expired in July 2005. As of September 5, 1,069 members had sent letters expressing their frustration. Finally, with a letter dated August 14, received by the union on August 30, the mayor has responded to the pressure. The text of his letter follows:

August 14, 2006

CWA Local 1180
6 Harrison Street
New York, NY 10013-2883

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your recent letter. The City of New York ahs been engaged in discussions with CWA Local 1180 about a productivity raise for its members. In May, the City proposed a 0.6 percent raise. We are hopeful and confident that ongoing negotiations regarding this matter will lead to a resolution that is satisfying to both parties.

New York's public sector employees provide invaluable services to our residents, and I appreciate your involvement as we work to improve our great City for all New Yorkers.

Sincerely,

Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor

What we want to know is, if he "appreciates" the work of Local 1180 members so much, why doesn't he come up with the other 0.4 percent so we can settle this and move on?
