City makes first formal offer in negotiations over 1%

May 2006

Local 1180 president Arthur Cheliotes met with the city regarding the 1 percent productivity raise on Friday, May 5. Cheliotes reports:

"There has been an important breakthrough in negotiations. After nearly six months of demanding a response to our $3.6 million productivity proposal the city has finally responded with an offer that meets us halfway. It is the first good-faith response so far to an otherwise one-way negotiation. While this doesn’t resolve our bargaining, it is a major step that starts the momentum toward an agreement. Local 1180 will conduct a thorough analysis of the city’s offer and make a counterproposal shortly."

Cheliotes will offer members a more detailed update at the general membership meeting on Wednesday, May 17, 6 p.m. at the Local 1180 offices, 97 Hudson Street, lower level.
