Local
1180 has several active committees. To get involved, contact the committee
chairs through the union office at 212-226-6565. To find out when the
next committee meetings are, check the calendar.

Committee on Arts, Events & Entertainment (chair: Harlan Reid, ext. 4909) The Committee on Arts, Events & Entertainment organizes the union's annual picnic, an open mic series for union members and their children, and other special events such as the Youth 'n' Union workshop and a union poster exhibit and film screening in celebration of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Community Service Committee (chair: Pat Ruffin, ext. 4945) The Community Service Committee runs the union's annual Thanksgiving food drive and Christmas toy drive for needy children in the community. They also coordinate the union’s involvement in a number of other programs, from Big Brothers and Sisters to meal-on-wheels for homebound seniors.

Editorial
Committee (chair: Esther Kaplan, ext. 4912) Plans coverage for upcoming issues of the Communique, with the opportunity to contribute articles or photos to the publication or the website.

Education Committee (chair: Linda Jenkins, ext. 4913) The Education Committee plans and oversees the union's education programs. These include the Workplace Literacy Program, which provides free classes to members, as well as special educational programs, such as the union's annual Black History Month celebration.
- Equity Committee (chair: Gloria Middleton, ext. 4915) The Equity Committee provides education on workplace rights issues and works to support the union's civil rights agenda.
- Hispanic Caucus (chairs: Charles Garcia, ext. 4946, and Miguel Santana, ext. 4908) The Hispanic Caucus organizes events throughout the year on subjects of concern to Latino workers.
- Organizing Committee (chair: Erin Mahoney, ext. 4958) The Organizing Committee seeks out and follows up on leads for workplaces we could organize into the union. Committee members work to make the union bigger and stronger by helping to develop organizing literature, doing outreach, and sharing their experiences with workers who want to organize a union on their job.
- Committee on People with Disabilities (chair: Alan Goldblatt, ext. 4944) The Committee on People with Disabilities provides information and resources about workplace rights. It sponsors trainings for members on the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act and other issues.
- Political
Action Committee (chair: Gerald Brown, ext. 4950) The Political Action
Committee co-ordinates both the union's support for candidates that
the local has endorsed and its lobbying effort for its legislative
agenda.
- Women's
Committee (chair: Bernice Selman, 212-669-8956) The Women's Committee
hosts discussion meetings throughout the year on subjects of concern
to working women. They also coordinate the union's annual Women's
History Month celebration.
