On Friday, December 11, 2009, CWA Local 1180 hosted it’s first ever “Committee Bowl”, an event developed and planned by the Committee on Arts, Events & Entertainment, as a way to promote the various committees that serve under Local 1180, and to encourage members to join a committee of their choice.

The Hispanic Committee has been under Local 1180 for some twenty (20) years and is currently chaired by Venus Colon-Williams who filled that position in April 2008.

It’s back! 1180 PRIDE, the union’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender committee has come back with a new Chairperson, Robert Ortiz. 1180 PRIDE is open to all union members, whether you identify as LGBT or not. In this world, discrimination is discrimination, no matter who it affects.

The Caribbean Heritage Committee is one of CWA Local 1180’s newest committees.

The Women’s Committee’s objective is to raise awareness on the issues that are essential to women such as Healthcare, homelessness, homecare, childcare, housing, the elderly and education.

The Education Committee is responsible for the development, implementation and promotion of the education programs of the Local.

The Committee on Arts, Events & Entertainment meet the first Tuesday of each month to plan various events that are both educational and entertaining.

One of the cornerstones of unionism has been the struggle for just and equal treatment on the job and in society.

The Community Service Committee runs the union's annual Thanksgiving food drive and Christmas toy drive for needy children in the community.

Plans coverage for upcoming issues of the Communique, with the opportunity to contribute articles or photos to the publication or the website.

The Organizing Committee seeks out and follows up on leads for workplaces we could organize into the union.

The Committee on People with Disabilities provides information and resources about workplace rights.

The Political Action Committee co-ordinates both the union's support for candidates that the local has endorsed and its lobbying effort for its legislative agenda.
